The starting point for this route is between the General Diputació Palace (20). This spot is where the most important mosque of the madina was traditionally situated.

The harmonic and abstract forcefulness of the military construction is impressive highlighting the clean lines by magnificently using pure geometric volumes. The National State-Run Hotel houses the memorial funeral stone dedicated to the memory of the Caid 'Abd al-Salam b. 'Abd Allah b. Basil, probably made locally and of very high quality. It has been related to the monumental foundation tomb of the Necropolis and, like the memorial stone of the shipyards, it has its own flowering cufica engraving from the Califal period.

When reaching the top, before going inside, the residence that in olden times was the residence of  different military governors and “Caids de la taifa” of Tortosa, on the left you will see the remains of a former Necropolis (6).

From every point of the walls, the view is incredible: the city unfolds at the foot of the castle and joins up both sides of the river with the exceptional backdrop of the outline of Els Ports.

If you go down the hill on the northern slope, going around the former Porcar Spa where Prince’s Gardens are now located (7) you will reach the place that was the Jewish and Moorish district that is now the Remolins district. The Assoc Portal is nearby, a place name of Arabic origin, meaning market. The portal, possibly one of the four gates of the madina of Andalusia described by al-Himyari, appeared in a document from the 13th century. It is in this area where, after the Christian conquest of 1148, the Moorish district was separated from the Christian city by the wall that continued along carrer de la Cortadura.
