Description

The history of Tortosa is intertwine with the river... ...and its floods. In olden times, there were no reservoirs that regulated the flow of the river and so, on several occasions, it broke its banks and flooded the city’s streets, causing great destruction and even a few deaths. One example was the 1907 flood. Around the city, there are several plaques that mark the level that the water reached. This guided tour includes a route to look at these plaques, as well as an account of the anecdotes, experiences and heroes of the fateful flood.
