Greenway Bus + Bike

Bikes on the Greenway bus is a HIFE service that combines regular bus travel with bicycle transport on routes serving the Val de Zafán Greenway. This allows cyclists to plan one-way routes and use the bus to reach a starting point or return after completing their ride.

In addition, the service makes it easier to organise a cycling trip without having to ride the same route in both directions. Therefore, cyclists can adapt the distance to their plans, available time and preferred itinerary.

Bikes on the Greenway bus

The bikes on the Greenway bus service allows bicycles to be transported on certain regular HIFE bus services connected with the Val de Zafán Greenway.

However, bicycle transport must be arranged in advance and is subject to available space in the bus luggage compartment. For this reason, bicycle transport should not be considered automatically included with a standard bus ticket.

Booking in advance

To use the service, passengers must contact HIFE beforehand. Specifically, HIFE states that requests must be made at least 72 hours before travelling.

This allows HIFE to confirm whether bicycle transport is available on the selected service. Requests should be made by email.

Bicycle capacity

HIFE allows a maximum of 2 bicycles per bus under this special service. In addition, each passenger may transport a maximum of 1 bicycle.

Therefore, booking in advance is particularly important because capacity is limited. Bicycle transport is always subject to the space available in the vehicle's luggage compartment.

The Val de Zafán Greenway

The Val de Zafán Greenway follows part of the former railway line that once connected inland areas with the Terres de l'Ebre. Its Baix Ebre section runs for approximately 25 km between El Pinell de Brai and Tortosa.

Moreover, the route continues through other sections of Terra Alta, Matarranya and Bajo Aragón. As a result, combining bus and bicycle transport can make it easier to plan rides of different lengths along the Greenway.

Planning a one-way cycling route

One of the main advantages of Greenway Bus + Bike is the possibility of organising a one-way cycling route. For example, cyclists can take the bus to a point along the Greenway and then cycle back.

Alternatively, the bus can be used for the return journey after completing the cycling route. In this way, the experience can be adapted to the desired distance, available time and type of ride.
