Verticality, mountain scenery and adventure come together on the Penyaflor Via Ferrata, a route located between Els Reguers and Alfara de Carles, on the foothills of the Els Ports massif. Rogles Aventura offers a guided experience along rock faces and equipped sections, with extensive views over Els Ports and the Ebro Valley.
Graded K3, the via ferrata features 800 metres of equipped route within a total itinerary of approximately 4 kilometres. In addition, it combines a variety of progression elements, making for a dynamic and varied mountain experience.
Penyaflor Via Ferrata: adventure in the foothills of Els Ports
The Penyaflor Via Ferrata provides an opportunity to explore a mountain landscape close to Tortosa. Access is from the area around Els Reguers, a village within the municipality of Tortosa located at the foot of Els Ports.
After an approach of approximately 20 minutes, the equipped section begins. From this point onwards, participants progress across different sections of rock using the equipment installed along the route.
The via ferrata covers a total elevation gain of approximately 310 metres. Therefore, as well as the distance involved, its vertical nature and the characteristics of this type of mountain activity should also be taken into account.
Rungs, walkways and Tibetan bridges
One of the highlights of the route is the variety of features used to progress along the rock face. The via ferrata includes rungs, walkways, handrails, chains and two Tibetan bridges.
In addition, an extension to the via ferrata added a 13-metre Tibetan bridge. This feature complements the different equipped sections encountered throughout the route.
The itinerary also crosses natural ledges alongside a vertical rock face. In this way, the route combines different types of sections and provides a varied experience from beginning to end.
A K3 via ferrata
The Penyaflor Via Ferrata is graded K3. This classification is an important factor when considering the characteristics and level of difficulty of the activity.
The route includes approximately 800 metres of equipped sections, while the complete itinerary covers around 4 kilometres. The estimated duration is between 2 hours 30 minutes and 3 hours.
Moreover, there is an option to finish the activity with three abseils. This option should be arranged in advance with Rogles Aventura.
Els Ports and the Ebro Valley from above
The location of the via ferrata provides one of the experience’s main attractions: the landscape. As participants gain height, views open up over the foothills of Els Ports and the Ebro Valley.
From the same route, it is possible to appreciate the contrast between the mountainous terrain and the landscape extending towards the river. As a result, the natural surroundings become an essential part of the experience throughout much of the climb.
The proximity of Els Reguers also connects the activity with one of the most significant natural areas around Tortosa.
A guided experience with Rogles Aventura
The activity takes place accompanied by expert Rogles Aventura instructors throughout the route. Before starting, participants receive an introductory session covering technique and safety.
The necessary technical equipment is included. Specifically, Rogles provides a helmet, harness and energy-absorbing lanyards. Accident insurance and the via ferrata maintenance fee are also included.
In addition, the activity includes a photo report, providing participants with a record of their experience.
