Description
The Greenway and River Ebro kayaking experience by Montsport combines cycling and kayaking to explore some of the most distinctive landscapes of the Terres de l'Ebre. It includes a cycling route along the Val de Zafán Greenway, from Horta de Sant Joan to Benifallet, followed by a kayak trip on the River Ebro from Miravet to Benifallet.
In this way, a single experience brings together two very different environments. First, cycling reveals the former railway line, with its tunnels, viaducts and mountain landscapes. Afterwards, kayaking offers a completely different perspective of the region from the waters of the Ebro.
Greenway and River Ebro kayaking
Greenway and River Ebro kayaking is designed as a combined cycling and water-based experience. The first part follows the Greenway by bicycle, while the second explores a section of the River Ebro by kayak.
In addition, Montsport offers the possibility of spreading the activities over two days. This makes it possible to enjoy the experience at a more relaxed pace while exploring the Terres de l'Ebre.
Cycling from Horta de Sant Joan to Benifallet
The cycling route starts in Horta de Sant Joan and follows the Greenway towards Benifallet. The itinerary uses the former Val de Zafán railway line, passing through tunnels, across viaducts and alongside old railway infrastructure.
At the same time, the route reveals the landscapes of Terra Alta and the Canaletes River valley, with the mountains of Els Ports forming one of the most distinctive natural backdrops.
From railway landscapes to the River Ebro
After the cycling route, the experience continues on the water. This change of environment is one of the main features of the activity.
The Blueway therefore complements the land-based route with a kayaking experience. In just a few hours, participants go from cycling along a former railway corridor to discovering the landscape from the River Ebro itself.
Kayaking from Miravet to Benifallet
The second part of the experience is a kayak route from Miravet to Benifallet. Here, the Ebro becomes the focus of the activity and offers a completely different perspective of the riverside landscape.
Moreover, combining the two activities highlights the diversity of the region. Mountains, inland valleys, railway heritage and the river all become part of the same outdoor experience.
Continue along the Greenway to Tortosa
Montsport also offers an optional extension that continues by bicycle from Benifallet to Tortosa. The route follows the Greenway through Baix Ebre and gradually approaches the city.
Finally, cyclists enter Tortosa via the Red Bridge, a former railway bridge now adapted for cyclists and pedestrians. The itinerary therefore provides a direct cycling connection between the Greenway and Tortosa.
Complete the experience with Lo Sirgador
The extension to Tortosa can also be combined with an activity aboard Lo Sirgador. As a result, this option adds another way of experiencing the River Ebro.
This extension takes approximately 4 hours and costs an additional €28 per person. It is an optional extra and is therefore not included in the base price of the Greenway + Blueway experience.
