Base of the Roman temple
Here you can see the base of a Roman temple. Its south side was under the neighbouring bishopric building where its remnants are visible today. The temple is dated to around 100 CE, which would make it a contemporary of the nearby tabernae. The complex was part of a large-scale construction plan for this part of the city which may have been associated with setting up the forum.
By the 5th century the external structures of the temple had already been stripped. At this time the base was partially overlaid by a salting factory but was also pockmarked by rubbish dumps and grave pits.
