Description

Discovering Els Ports as a family can become a real outdoor adventure. EducaPorts’ family activities in Els Ports invite you to explore this mountain landscape with a map and compass, take on small challenges and learn to notice details that can easily go unseen during an ordinary walk through the forest.

Animals, plants, tracks and stories about traditional mountain life are all part of an experience designed for children and adults to enjoy together. Rather than simply listening to explanations, you will navigate, search, observe, play and experiment. In this way, a day out in Els Ports becomes an engaging activity surrounded by nature.

Family activities in Els Ports: learning through play

What animals live in the forest? How can you recognise the plants around you? And what was life like for the farming families who once lived in these mountains?

These and other questions provide the starting point for EducaPorts’ activities. Each experience can focus on a different theme, introducing families to the wildlife, plants and history of Els Ports through games and hands-on discovery.

In addition, children play an active role throughout the experience. Instead of simply following a route, they are encouraged to pay attention to their surroundings and complete activities along the way. In some cases, and subject to prior consultation, the experience can also end with a craft activity inspired by what they have discovered.

An adventure with a map and compass

One of the most enjoyable parts of the experience is learning to explore the natural environment using a map and compass. Orienteering becomes a game that encourages the whole family to take part and look more closely at the landscape.

As a result, walking through the forest becomes much more than getting from one place to another. You will need to find your way, interpret your surroundings and keep an eye out for clues provided by nature.

Along the route, there may be opportunities to learn about animals, identify plants or discover how people traditionally made use of the mountain’s natural resources. Therefore, the activity combines movement, play and discovery while maintaining direct contact with the environment.

Discover nature with all five senses

The activities are particularly recommended for children aged 5 to 12, with different options and materials adapted to different ages. In addition, EducaPorts offers activities for younger children based on exploring the natural world through the five senses.

Listening to the sounds of the forest, noticing shapes and colours or discovering different textures are simple ways to bring children closer to nature. In this way, the landscape becomes a large outdoor learning environment.

Exploring Els Ports in this way gives families the chance to spend time together while encouraging children’s curiosity about the world around them. At the same time, adults can rediscover the landscape through questions, games and small challenges.

A family morning in Els Ports Natural Park

Activities can take place in different parts of Els Ports Natural Park, although they are usually held in the Vall del Mascar area. For groups, EducaPorts can also adapt the location according to where participants are staying.

Activities usually last around three hours, approximately from 10 am to 1 pm. Therefore, they are easy to combine with other plans during a stay in Tortosa and Els Ports.

Finally, this experience offers a particularly engaging way to connect with the natural environment. Compass in hand, every game, clue and discovery becomes an opportunity to experience Els Ports with curiosity and enjoy nature together as a family.
