Come to the city where time has a flavour: that of the river, the orchards, the mountains and the sea. A cuisine that is remembered, lived and passed on.

A city to savour

Where history is slow-cooked

In Tortosa, time sits down at the table: from extra virgin olive oils to tender artichokes from the market gardens, from the fragrant citrus fruits of Bítem to the rice dishes of the Delta. Our cuisine is born of the land and of the hands that work it, of a heritage passed down from generation to generation, still beating today in the kitchens of local restaurants.

The taste of our landscape

Tortosa is a city shaped by its land

The River Ebro gives it life. From north to south, it flows through the lands that bear its name, nourishing the orchards, rice fields and countryside that surround us. At the foot of Els Ports, centuries-old olive trees, almond groves and vineyards stretch across the landscape; further down, it softens with clementines and orange trees that fill the air with fragrance. And at the river’s end, the Delta offers its most precious treasure: rice — a symbol of life, balance and identity.

From the sea come mantis shrimp, prawns and oily fish; from the river, eels and riverside herbs; from the land, tender vegetables and fruits that change with the seasons.
Each ingredient reflects this natural mosaic that makes Tortosa a living, distinctive pantry.

In the kitchen, all of this is transformed into a cuisine of memory: dishes that tell who we are and where we come from.
Salt cod in sauce, rice with mantis shrimp, omelette with spinach and borage, menjar blanc and pastries filled with pumpkin or sweet angel hair are more than recipes — they are fragments of a shared story that continues to be written every day.

Tortosa is landscape and cuisine, river and table, tradition and emotion.
Here, every bite is memory and every dish a way of remembering.

A creation rooted in memory and the land

Loin of salt cod on mantis shrimp ajoblanco, with black olive crumble, confit tomato, citrus zest and herbs from Els Ports. A dish that brings together sea and mountains, memory and innovation.

Created by four local chefs and the Tortosa School of Hospitality, this dish captures the essence of a city that knows how to reinvent its gastronomic heritage.

It is the taste of contemporary Tortosa: authentic, bold and true to its land.
