Description

Watching the day draw to a close while cruising along the Ebro offers a different perspective on Tortosa and its river landscape. The Sunset Cruise on the Ebro with Lo Sirgador is a 90-minute guided journey from the city’s historic riverfront to the natural surroundings of Illa de la Xiquina and Illa dels Bous, with sunset providing the highlight of the final part of the cruise.

Over approximately 14.5 kilometres, the journey combines heritage, history and nature. In addition, during the cruise you can enjoy a glass of cava, mistela or water accompanied by a traditional Tortosa pastisset. It is an experience designed for leisurely enjoyment of the river while watching the changing evening light transform the landscape.

Sunset Cruise on the Ebro: 90 minutes at dusk

The cruise begins in Tortosa and offers a view of the city from a perspective closely connected to its history. For centuries, the Ebro was a major route for communication and the transport of goods, playing an essential role in the city’s economy.

Aboard Lo Sirgador, the guided commentary brings this river heritage to life. Traditional llaguts, towpath workers and the towpath itself form part of a story that reveals just how closely Tortosa has always been connected to its river.

In this way, the experience is more than simply an evening cruise. The landscape unfolding on both sides of the boat provides the setting for discovering the city’s history and its relationship with the Ebro.

Tortosa from the river in the evening light

The first part of the journey offers views of Tortosa’s historic riverfront from the water. Among the landmarks that stand out on the city skyline are the Episcopal Palace, the Cathedral of Santa Maria and La Suda Castle, rising above the historic quarter.

As the cruise continues, Tortosa’s bridges also become part of the scenery. In fact, the journey provides views of different structures that now form part of the Ebro landscape as it passes through the city.

The evening light adds another dimension to these views. Gradually, the colours of the landscape begin to change, anticipating the central moment of the experience: watching the sunset from the river itself.

From Illa de la Xiquina to Illa dels Bous

Heading upstream, Lo Sirgador reaches Illa de la Xiquina, where riverside vegetation takes centre stage. The contrast with historic Tortosa is striking, as buildings give way to trees, riverbanks and natural habitats.

The boat then changes direction and cruises downstream. Along this section, the Red Bridge on the Greenway and the Mil·lenari Bridge come into view before the journey continues towards Illa dels Bous, also known as Illa de Vinallop.

As a result, the 90-minute route offers the opportunity to discover several different Ebro landscapes in a single cruise, from the urban riverfront to areas dominated by riverside vegetation.

Sunset behind Els Ports

The cruise is timed so that its final section coincides with sunset. From the area around Illa dels Bous, the view opens towards the horizon and, when weather conditions allow, you can watch the sun set behind the mountains of Els Ports Natural Park.

It is one of the most distinctive moments of the journey. The river landscape, the silhouette of the mountains and the changing light turn the Ebro itself into a moving viewpoint.

However, sunset visibility naturally depends on weather conditions. For this reason, the colours, reflections on the water and appearance of the landscape can be different on every cruise.

Cava, mistela and a pastisset on board

During the cruise, passengers are served a glass of cava, mistela or water, accompanied by a traditional Tortosa pastisset. This local pastry adds a small taste of Tortosa to an experience centred primarily on the river landscape.

Moreover, enjoying a drink and pastisset while the boat makes its way along the Ebro complements the leisurely character of the experience. The aim is not simply to reach a viewpoint for sunset, but to enjoy the entire journey as daylight gradually fades.

Finally, the Sunset Cruise on the Ebro brings together historic Tortosa seen from the water, the heritage of river navigation, river islands and woodland, Els Ports on the horizon and the changing colours of the final hours of the day.
