Description

Probably, it took the name of the country where it is. Located strategically in the middle of an ancient agricultural route, it is one of the oldest in Tortosa. Ignored after being destroyed, which it is suspected to be in the War of Independence. In their joys, very old and reissued in 2006, the Mother of God is seen sitting with the Child in her arms. At the feet, as described by the narrative, a shepherd and a bull. The facts of this tradition are repeated in other Marian devotions, in the case of Santa Maria de Ebo, in Quintanilla de Escalada. They denote ancestral Iberian cult and lytic beliefs.

The Virgin of Solicrú enjoyed a lot of devotion in the country. The current image, made of wood and Romanesque features, shows the Temple's coat of arms on the pedestal, recalling the Templar past of the area. She is a lawyer against tertians, a frequent illness when these meadows were close to the sea.

The Garcia Ballester family, owner of the Mas de la Missa estate, restored the hermitage in 2001. In the part of the entrance, some tiles commemorate and reproduce the old image. Since 2002 the Diada de Solicru is celebrated, with religious service, the only one of the year. Typical of this pilgrimage are the traditional borage.
